Who we are
Kids Missions Explorer is an educational atlas published by Dwayne Riner. The site helps children learn about countries around the world and pray for unreached people groups. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.
We do not require an account, we do not run advertising, and we do not sell personal information.
What we DON’t collect
Kids Missions Explorer is built so that we don’t need to know who you are. We do not ask for, collect, or store:
- Your name, real or screen.
- Your email address or phone number.
- Your address, school, city, or country.
- Your age, birthday, or photo.
- Any login or account information — we don’t have accounts.
- Tracking cookies, advertising identifiers, or behavioral profiles.
- The content of anything you type into the “Ask Herman & Rusty” chat (we don’t save your messages on our servers).
What is technically handled
In the interest of being completely honest, here are the small, technical things that happen behind the scenes when any website — including this one — loads:
- Hosting logs. Like every website on the internet, our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard request logs (IP address, browser type, date and time, pages requested) for security and debugging. We do not use these logs to track or identify individual visitors.
- The chat sends messages to Anthropic. When you ask a question in “Ask Herman & Rusty,” the message you type is sent to a third party (Anthropic) so its AI model can write a reply. Once the reply comes back, the conversation is gone from our side. Anthropic’s own privacy policy governs what they do with messages they receive.
- One small marker on your own device. When you click the “Yes, my parent is with me” button on the welcome screen, your browser saves a tiny marker (called localStorage) so we don’t ask you again every time you visit. This marker contains no personal information — it’s just a “yes, I clicked OK” note that lives in your browser. It’s never sent anywhere. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Third parties we use
The site relies on a small number of third-party services to function. Each handles data under its own privacy policy:
- Vercel — web hosting and request logging.
- Anthropic— powers the “Ask Herman & Rusty” chat. Messages typed into the chat are sent to Anthropic so Claude can respond. Anthropic’s handling of those messages is governed by Anthropic’s privacy policy.
- Joshua Project — provides public data about people groups around the world. We send country codes; we do not send any visitor information.
- REST Countries — provides public country facts (capital, population, languages, flag).
- World Bank — provides public country statistics (literacy, life expectancy, school enrollment).
- Google Fonts — serves the typefaces used on the site.
We do not control what these providers do with information they receive. We recommend reviewing their privacy policies if you have concerns.
Children’s privacy
Kids Missions Explorer is designed for children ages 8 to 14 and is intended to be used with the supervision of a parent, guardian, teacher, or trusted adult.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 in a way that would violate the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) or similar laws. We do not require children to enter their name, email address, phone number, location, photo, or any other personal identifier.
Parents and guardians:please be aware that the AI chat feature sends typed messages to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to generate responses. We strongly encourage you to supervise your child’s use of the chat and to remind them never to type personal information (real name, school, address, phone number) into any chat box on any website. If you believe your child has shared personal information through the site, please contact us at support@dwayneriner.com and we will help you take appropriate steps.
How we use information
Information collected through the site is used only to:
- Operate, maintain, and secure the website.
- Generate responses in the AI chat feature.
- Detect and prevent abuse, spam, or security incidents.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not use information for advertising, profiling, behavioral targeting, or sale to third parties.
Your choices
You can use Kids Missions Explorer without typing anything into the chat. If you don’t want any information sent to a third-party AI provider, simply do not use the chat feature.
You may request information about, or deletion of, data associated with you by contacting us at support@dwayneriner.com. Because we do not maintain user accounts, we may have limited ability to associate information with a specific individual.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the site and the limited information it handles. No website can guarantee perfect security, but we use modern hosting infrastructure, HTTPS encryption, and reputable third-party providers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced on the home page.
